CRS makes me smile. Posted by Hello

The Realm Part 7.

This was where it all hit the fan, when nothing goes right, you end up starting from scratch and doing it all by yourself at the last minute. I'll speak more of it in the final recap tomorrow. Let's just say I had to rewrite the whole thing, and ended up doing it all in voice over.
------------------------------------------------------------
I have been walking for days
trying to find my way home
I don’t know how it began
I don’t know if it will end
All I know is that I have an ability
I can enter a strange world parallel to this one.
And when I go I can take someone else with me.
It is always the same girl.
Neither one of us knows why we are there, how we got there or who we are.
This talent, if you want to call it that, is making my life a living hell.
I have no control over it
And it is slowly driving me insane
I have trouble thinking,
no sleep, no food, just me
and my memories of madness
Home at last......
To relive these horrors on video
Another anomaly in my anomalous life
I can watch these events on tapes that appear at my door
Don’t ask how or why, I have no idea
I don’t know if I can go on like this
Come with me and will show you my last experience
In what I have come to call The Realm
------------------------------------------------------------------
I was there stewing in my madness
she was there too, confused
The place feeds off our minds
We walked around
not knowing if the other was there
only that it existed
Madness grows for me
for her, it was different, she was confused
not angry, but the madness was eating at her too......
At one point it becomes too great and she appears before me
we touch, for the first time
We never got this close before
but before we could speak, it was over and we were wandering again in the middle of nowhere.
------------------------------------------------------------------
That’s it
I don’t know who she is or where she is
I have tried to find her, But I don’t know where to start
Is she going through the same things as me?
I don’t know Maybe I will see her in the future
In another place and another time
Maybe in a better place maybe in the same hell
I don’t know, I fear what may happen to me
And her, Will she continue to go on?
Does she exist for me? or me for her?
Or maybe because of each other?
I just want this all to end,
I cannot take it anymore.

Tangled Mess. Posted by Hello

The Realm Part 6.

Our last step before we started shooting was, of course, writing the script. This was tough for me because I am really bad at writing dialogue. Anyway this was what I came up with. Then we started shooting and all hell broke loose as nothing happened.... More to come!
------------------------------------------------------

Master Scene Script
First Draft

SCENE 1

INT. BAR - NIGHT

It is a nice spring evening. OPENING TITLES and MUSIC play in cuts between MIKE and black. 24 year old MIKE HARRIS is sitting at the far end of a bar, looking terrible. Pop music is playing in the background. The bar is not very busy, probably because it is a Thursday night, and the crowds don’t really come until Friday. The BARTENDER is busy at the other end of the bar. The bartender jerks a bit then turns and approaches Mike, moving rather awkwardly.

BARTENDER
Hey, what’s wrong with you?

Mike looks up, slightly stunned

MIKE
Huh? Me?

BARTENDER
Yeah, you. What’s wrong with you?

Mike sighs, looks up at the bartender.

MIKE
You think you want to know what’s
wrong with me? Do you think that
You could possibly handle what I’ve
been through? The pain, the
loneliness, the lives I’ve seen destroyed,
God, I can barely take it myself,
I need someone else, I’m so alone, so cold,
what’s happened to me? I can’t even
think anymore. Why am I here, what does
HE want from me?

The bartender roughly interrupts.

BARTENDER
He? Who’s he?

Mike looks down into his drink.

MIKE
I don’t know where to begin, he killed
my parents twenty years ago.
I faced him for the first time nine
years ago. He is this thing, not a man,
not human. I’ve been chasing him ever since
I ran away from my Aunt’s home nine years ago.
Sometimes it feels like HE’s chasing ME. I dunno
Sometimes I feel like giving up, letting
Him get me, just to see what it is he
wants, but I don’t think it would work
It’s not me he want’s it’s my soul. He has
none of his own, he need’s me to survive

The bartender cocks his head from side to side, taking in the information. He
has a blank, glazed expression. At this point Mike losing any form of
coherence and starts mumbling.

MIKE
Realm....parents.....NO!.......
You! Stay away....leave them alone
it’s me you want.....NO!....It wasn’t
me....you, you killed them.........
It couldn’t have been...............

Mike falls silent staring into his drink. At this moment KRISTY enters the
bar. She approaches the bar and calls to the bartender. Mike glances up at
her, and almost immediately glazes over and looks back down. The
bartender jerks his eyes down at Mike, then jerks his way over towards
Kristy.

KRISTY
Hey, Give me a beer.

BARTENDER
Sure, whatever you would like my dear....

The bartender gives her an eerie look.

KRISTY
Uhhh, thanks.....

She quickly moves away. And rejoins her friends in the back corner of the bar.
we hear some muffled conversation.

KRISTY
Did you see that guy, man there’s
something wrong with that him.

FRIEND #1
Yeah, last time we come to this bar....

The whole time the bartender is staring at her and glancing back at Mike. A
sinister look comes over his face, as if he has come up with some great
idea. Kristy turns and looks across the bar at Mike. Mike’s head shoots up
and the gaze is returned. The bartender steps back and turns his gaze upward.
Suddenly everything disappears.

SCENE 2

EXT. REALM - NIGHT

Mike is crumpled on the ground, groggy, as if he just fell and had the wind
knocked out of him. He is surrounded by strange images that move
around him, although he is standing still.

Mike slowly rises.

MIKE
Where the hell am I? Aaaah.

Mike groans in pain.

Meanwhile, Kristy arises in her new surroundings, similar to Mike’s yet
different. She too is crumpled on the ground, she rises, appearing
refreshed.

Kristy thinks to herself.

KRISTY
Where am I?

On the flip side. Mike is growing confused and angry.

MIKE
Dammit, where am I, I must be
going crazy, this is no dream.

Mike wanders around sporadically screaming into the emptiness, growing dizzy
by the swirling images, as he slips further towards total dementia.
On the other side, Kristy wanders through the soothing images around her,
comfortable in the surroundings, yet questioning the source of the
hallucination.

Suddenly, Kristy hears something.

VOICE #1
aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhh!!!!.....

KRISTY
Hello? Anybody there?

VOICE #1
(silence)

KRISTY
I must be hearing things

On the other side.

MIKE
AAAAAEEEEE....??

Mike thinks he hears something. But dismisses it to his madness, muttering to
himself. He continues to wander, sometimes staggering.

VOICE #2
Where are you???

Startled.

KRISTY
Wha... Who’s there?

Again, no reply.

KRISTY
Stop playing games, I know
someone’s there, who are you?

This time Mike is positive that he hears something.

VOICE #2
....who are you?

MIKE
Hello? Is someone there?
Say something, please....

Flip to the other side....

VOICE #1
Say something, please.....

KRISTY
YES, YES I hear you!!!
Call again.

MIKE
Someone there? Where are
you, where am I?????

KRISTY
I’m here, but where is here?

The two voices converge appearing to come from the same place. Overlapping, as
you now tell that they are also wandering in roughly the same pattern. They
exist in the same place, this sequence is to show that, and that hey must
acknowledge each other to accept, and give in to the help of another.

MIKE
Here? I don’t know but you sound
like you’re right next to me.

KRISTY
Almost from the same space.....

Their voices fade as their images appear as one, and then separate into two
people within the same area......
They see each other truly for the first time.

MIKE
It was you.......

KRISTY
Yes, and you......

The reach out and touch each other, scene immediately turns black.
____________________________________________________________

SCENE 3

INT. BAR - NIGHT

It’s still night, and the bar is a bit busier now. Apparently some time has
passed. Mike and Kristy are still staring at each other across the bar. The
bartender looks back down towards the viewer looking very pleased with himself.
The stare is broken.

Mike takes a deep breath and shakes his head.

MIKE
My God, what the hell happened?

The bartender works his way over to Mike.

BARTENDER
Wouldn’t you like to know?

He said with a smirk and an evil look in his eye.

MIKE
Who the hell are you?

The bartender just smiles.

MIKE
No, NO! You’re not....
The realm.... another test.
What the hell are you
doing to me???

Mike stares at him disgustedly, but his attention quickly turns towards
Kristy, as the bartender steps back into the shadows, who is still staring
over at him. Mike moves quickly away from the “bartender.” He slows down as
he gets closer to Kristy, who is following him with her eyes, as he makes
his way towards her. He reaches out and takes her hand. They turn and
walk towards the exit of the bar.

SCENE 4

EXT. BAR - NIGHT

Mike and Kristy exit the bar and make their way into the darkened, empty
parking lot. They turn towards each other and embrace. Not saying a word.

ENTITY
Hahahahahahahahahahaha.......

The entity gives a laugh that startles both Mike and Gina.
The scene goes black with the new couple staring into the night, searching for
the owner of the laugh, and CLOSING CREDITS and MUSIC play.

The Realm Part 5.

Next step was to provide a treatment of the whole project, different from the concept in that there has to be more detail.
---------------------------------------------------------
Treatment:
The Past:
He’s been a part of my life for so long, I don’t know if I can remember the beginning. Wherever I go there he is. Forever tossing me into these nonsensical worlds of surrealistic images and obscure puzzles. It’s almost as if he wants me broken only to be rebuilt stronger.

I’ve been alone most of my life, I hold him responsible for the deaths of my parents almost twenty years ago. I have been pursuing him ever since then, or is it the other way around? Maybe he is the one pursuing me. Or maybe it’s neither maybe he is leading me, trying to take me somewhere where I will finally be able to confront him. He is my sole companion in this hell of a life.

How I long to have the companionship of another human being. Not even for the conversation, just to have someone to be with someone who will not fade away like so many of the others have.

The Present:
Mike sits at the bar staring blankly into his drink. He’s sitting there trying to clear his head of “him,” his life, everything. The last thing he wants to do right now is think. Mike’s in pain, confused, bewildered, everything but in control of his life. He doesn’t know where to turn or what to do.

The bartender comes up to him and asks him if there’s anything wrong. The bartender acts very strangely, moving in strange jerky movements and he speaks as if this is the first time he has ever used his voice. Needless to say there is something wrong with this guy.

Mike suddenly starts talking about everything. The death of his parents, the forced solitude of his existence, the strange experiences in what he has come to call “the realm.” The most recent event struck very close to Mike. The reason why this was so close is not exactly clear. It apparently was a strongly harrowing emotional experience. It comes out in the conversation that his last experience in the realm confronted him with the visions of his parents and severely taxed his physical mental and emotional strengths. His strongest feelings right at this moment is to find someone with whom he can share his entire life with, someone who would be there at his side throughout all the troubled times that lie ahead as well as understand completely his past.

The bartender listens intently to this wild talk. His body language is odd kind of jerky, jilting. The look in his eye says something different. He has that look of understanding, completely. The way he expresses himself, its as if they have known each other for years. Mike almost sees this, almost makes the connection, but due to his current mental state he doesn’t make that leap. As the conversation continues, the bartender gets a flash of insight and sees something that could possibly fit his “agenda.” As soon as this look passes SHE enters the bar.

She walks into the bar, her head held high and full of confidence. She has a bounce in her step and looks like she’s walking on air, exactly the opposite of Mike. She walks up to the far end of the bar and gets a drink from the bartender, who had clumsily excused himself from the expository conversation with Mike. She takes her drink and goes to leave. We watch her walk away over Mike’s shoulder, he barely looks up.

A few minutes later, she walks back into the bar and stares strangely at Mike. As she moves this time the confidence and bounce isn’t the same. We then see Mike look more attentive than he had been as he stares back at her. They stare for what seems to be hours.

The scene suddenly shifts to the bartender who has a strange smile on his face. He starts to laugh and the picture fades away to blackness.
___________________________________________________________
The picture comes up and we see Mike crumpled on the ground. Slowly he rises. He looks weak, tired, as if he is having trouble comprehending his new surroundings. He looks around into the blackness, he sees nothing. He walks around, dementia slowly creeping up him. His already damaged mental state is only worsened as the barren space around him gives way to the increasing disarray of his mind.

At the same time Gina awakes in new surroundings. She is calm and comfortable in her new surroundings. She, like Mike, also rises slowly. She walks around exploring.

The strange thing about these new surroundings is that Mike and Gina are mimicking each others movements, only different somehow. In this version of the realm, they exist in the same space at the same time, only in the exact opposite, much like a photo negative.

Mike is still wandering around, crying out his anger into the thin air. At that moment he hears something, he doesn’t know what it is, but it could be another voice. His state of dementia doesn’t allow him to actually hear what it is.

Gina hears these cries coming from somewhere near her, but she can’t quite make it out. She calls out hopefully to that cry, hoping for some response.

Mike’s head starts to clear, ever so slightly. The voice he hears starts to become more distinct and understandable.

head becomes clear---makes connection with the bartender---realizes that the bartender was the entity and that this is a test----he is being allowed to start a relationship---he must realize that he can allow someone else into his life and release his guard---Gina realizes that while she is happy something is missing from her life---they both recognize that someone else is there---guard is dropped and they see each other---they touch and the scene fades to black.
___________________________________________________________
The scene fades back into view and we see Mike and Gina still looking at each other across the bar. The eye-lock is broken and they truly look at each other for the first time. Mike slowly rises from his perch and walks toward Gina. She watches him as he makes his way across the bar to her.

The bartender stands in the background with his head cocked to the side, watching as the final act of this story plays itself out. He has the look of someone who has just accomplished some hard task.

Mike reaches out to Gina and takes her hand. Together they turn to leave the bar. They move slowly towards the door to the future. The bartender watches his smile turning into a sneer. Mike and Gina exit the bar. At the same moment the bartender collapses like a marionette with its strings cut. He wakes up a minute later a new man. You see, the bartender was under the control of the entity who has been plaguing Mike’s very existence.

As the new couple exit the bar they enter an empty darkened parking lot. Here they turn and embrace each other. At this moment we hear a sinister laugh which startles the couple as the scene fades away into blackness.

The Realm Part 4.

Next step we had to do was give a character list with descriptions. As you will see, I left a spot blank, I never came up with what I wanted to put there. Anyway here is that list:
--------------------------------------------------
The Cast:
Mike: The Hero
Mike is a man in his early/mid-twenties. He is haggard and exhausted from a lifetime of hardships. His parents were killed when he was five years old. Since that point he was bounced around many different adoptive homes until he was fifteen when he finally ran away and struck out on his own. It was around this time when he had his first face to face encounter with the entity. During this encounter we learn of the truth behind the death of his parents and the shadowy agenda that this being has for Mike. For roughly the next ten years Mike has been both pursuing and running from this entity, which he has come to call _______________. This portion of the story picks up shortly after a time where the entity caught Mike and placed him in a particularly horrifying visit to the realm. It was a confrontation with his parents in pain, trapped by the entity. Mike is struck with the task of saving them and confronting what could be his responsibility for their death. We learn in the story that he failed his task here, further adding to his dementia.

Gina:
Gina is a young woman in her early twenties. She is college educated and attractive. At this point we don’t know much about her. What we do know is that she too is alone, the difference being that she has a large group of friends, just not one person with whom to share herself. She is young and full of confidence, little does she know that her life is about to take a drastic turn.

Spectral Entity: The Nemesis
This character provides the main impetus of the story. He has been pursuing Mike for years. In a way molding him to fit his agenda which nobody actually knows. He is a shadowy character with the ability to take control and inhabit the bodies of others, when not doing this he only appears in shadows. He transports Mike into this “realm” where Mike is tested. The tests are limited only by the entity’s vivid imagination and his plans.

The Bartender:
The bartender is a strange character. He is character under the control of a third character. The bartender is being controlled by the entity. He, like Mike, is also a young man in his mid-twenties. He moves jerkily and talks kind of funny while under the control of the entity. We only see the character of the bartender at the end of the act when the entity relinquishes control.

The Realm Part 3.

After writing the story and submitting the concept sheet, I had to put to paper an outline of the scenes. Here we go:
---------------------------------------------------
Scene Outline
1. Opens in a bar. Mike is sitting at the bar in a corner by himself. He is staring down at his drink and looks depressed. The bar is full but flows around Mike but not near him.

2. The bartender approaches Mike. A conversation is seen taking place. We don’t hear anything at first. The conversation slowly becomes audible. There is one strange thing about the bartender, his mannerisms. He cocks his head often and his eyes are wide and blank.

3. Gina enters the bar, she approaches the bar and gets a beer from the bartender. She looks up and see’s Mike at the other end of the bar. She smiles slightly before walking away. Mike watches her go, though barely lifts his head.

4. The odd-acting bartender returns to Mike and the talk continues. The conversation turns to Gina. The bartender gets a strange look on his face and walks away.

5. Gina returns to the bar and sits at a stool at about the middle of the bar. Mike still looks depressed. Gina sits there staring at Mike. Mike doesn’t notice. He suddenly looks up and looks directly at Gina. They stare at each other, the look on there faces is one of complete amazement.

6. The scene shifts to blackness. As it does Mike turns a surprised look to the bartender, who just gives him an evil looking smile.

7. A light comes up on Mike. He is standing alone in the center of the light. He is surrounded by black. He looks bewildered and hurt.

8. All you see is white, Gina walks into view from the left. She wanders around. She looks happy and calm.

9. Mike appears to be going crazy. He cries out into the blackness, apparently waiting for a response. He then crumples to the ground.

10. Gina still looking comfortable looks around the whiteness. She stops just before the middle of the room and listens. She looks as if she has just heard something. She calls back. She then sits down leaning against the back wall of the room.

11. During this experience Mike occasionally hears a whispering voice. Hearing this just further angers him.

12. As Gina gets up and looks around she hears Mike’s voice crying out, she calls back to him, realizing that she is not alone. She calls to him more, almost begging for a response.

13. Mike gets up as he hears these voices but because of his apparent mental state he fails to realize what is going on and sinks deeper into his manic state.

14. Something that is said to Mike suddenly snaps him out of his state and snaps to attention. He picks up on Gina’s voice and responds to it directly.

15. The “barrier” between them drops and they see each other truly for the first time. They approach each other and touch.

16. As soon as they touch the scene goes black.

17. Light comes back up and we see they are back at their positions at the opposite sides of the bar, staring at each other.

18. Back in the bar. Mike and Gina still staring at each other. Mike slowly gets up and walks toward Gina. Her gaze follows him as he makes his way to her seat. He takes her hand and they turn to leave the bar.

19. The bartender stares after them with an evil looking smile on his face. After they leave he crumples onto the counter. The bartender then wakes up, a looks as if he’d been sleeping for hours.

20. They exit the bar and embrace in the darkened parking lot, lit only by the glow of the street lights.

The Realm Part 2.

I already had the story, but we had to submit it as a concept, not just the story. So here it is, my submission:
--------------------------------------------------------
The Concept:
The Realm

by C. W. Beaumont
Electronic Moviemaking
1/30/98

This is a story about Mike Harris and he wants to find the woman of his life. He wants to achieve this goal because he has been alone for most of his life and feels his time is running out.
The nemesis is a spectral entity who has had a hand in his life for a long time.
He wishes to stop the hero because he believes that he has a vested interest in the outcome of the hero’s life, it’s more of a help/hurt relationship for the unknown agenda of the entity.

This story focuses on a specific event in Mike’s life. It is the point where he meets the “love interest” of the larger story. The story starts after some devastating event in Mike’s life, he ends up in a bar depressed, hurt, and confused, not really sure of where to turn next, then she enters the bar. This Gina enters the bar and approaches the counter, Mike can’t help but see her. The entity, as he has done so many times in the past, transports him to another realm. The only problem is that each time this happens, it’s different. It’s as if the entity wishes to test our hero at each step of the journey. This time he is not alone but in his current state he has trouble figuring out what is going on. She is there as well but the opposite is occurring, she was in an upbeat mood so she doesn’t know why but she is comfortable and at peace. This story teaches our hero that at times you must rely on others as a way to pull yourself through whatever may be happening to you.

The Realm Part 1.

As promised, here is part one on the journey of The Realm. This is what would evolve into my senior project video in college. This is the story that I wrote, it would change drastically by the end of the project, but here goes:
------------------------------------------------
The Original Story:
As He wandered through the darkness, an eerie calm descended over him. He wandered around the land believing he was dreaming, but feeling awake. Too bad he was too naive to know the difference, for he was doing neither. He walked for what seemed to be days but were just minutes ticking, ticking away. His calm slowly gave way to panic as he wasn't waking up. In his anxiety he failed to search his surroundings and fell....

His aching body sat up, pain shooting through his skull.... Pain? He thought, I'm dreaming you can't feel pain in a dream....could you? He suddenly came to the realization that he was not asleep. Although he did not know where he was or how he got there. All he thought he knew was that he must find a way out of the intense blackness.
As if on cue, colors started swirling around him. His panic grows and grows into a fevered pitch. Where am I? He screams to anyone who may be listening. Little did he know that someone was listening...
That was me.... And one other

The other arrived about the same time as he, but in the polar opposite. She was bathed in a blinding white light. She stumbled around at first, startled at the brilliance of the light and the loss of her sight. She soon learned to navigate the unfamiliar landscape without the use of her eyes. She came to have questions about where she was and why she felt so relaxed. She wandered for minutes which seemed to stretch for hours. As she walked her questions were forgotten and she felt empty and alone, falling into despair and then... She walked off the edge...
And landed on what felt like a large pillow, and suddenly she could see again. Not shapes but colors swirling around her. It was then that she heard the voice...

Where am I? It said. She sat up startled, not prepared to hear a voice other than her own. Slowly she got to her feet and calling out Where are you?

The voice cried out a few more times before degenerating into gasping sobs. She called again to the voice's anonymous owner Who are you? She asked.

While on the flip side, he was attempting to bring himself to some kind of semblance of sanity. Am I going crazy? He asked himself Am I hearing things? He thought as he could have sworn he had heard a female voice calling out to him. Maybe I'm dead and this is my private hell.

Little did he know the truth, the reality of his situation. He was very much alive and in a place far from hell. He as well as She is on a plane that transgresses reality, the nexus where all are linked, no this isn't hell and I am no devil, but they were both chosen to be brought here for a reason. She continues to call, he refuses to answer instead believing that he is imagining the sounds.
She tries to locate the source of the cries, only to discover that they are coming from where she was standing. How can that be you ask? This is because These two zones are linked one to the other in perfect symmetry. To break the barrier there must be conscious acknowledgment of the other. A brief joining of two becoming one of mind.

At this point He realizes his soul searching is irrelevant and listens to the calls of the other.
Should he respond? or just let the calling drive him to the condition he initially feared he was, insane.
He chooses the previous. I'm Here! He calls to the other voice. She hears him and calls Who are you?

At this point the barrier is broken and they stand before each other amidst the swirling colors. For a minute they stare blankly at each then they approach each other and touch. At this instant they leave my realm and return to their own. Where they awaken from what seemed like a nights sleep but was actually just an instant to everyone else.

Now you may ask, What my role was in all of this. I play no role I am the keeper of the realm. This is a realm of the mind and of the being. Not heaven nor hell. Not real but not imagined. It is where everyone visits to connect with another on a different level than just the conscious although most do not realize it at the time. I am merely someone who watches over all the visitors to this place and impart their stories on to others, for it is different for everyone, no two unions are the same. Just remember that when you are here.... I will be watching.

Now I wait for the next visitors to my home.

I Had a Dream.

I know a lot of you have dreams, but mine was different. Haven't had one like this in awhile. I also know that some of you know me in the "real" world, so if you read this, please leave it here, I don't want to talk about anywhere else, thanks.

I had a dream where I met somebody, it was while shopping and she came on to me and We made plans to meet the next day. At that point I woke up and forgot most of it. The strange part was that she had more than a passing resemblance to my ex-fiancee, pictured below. I am over her, but every once in awhile I get that What If question. Things could have been a lot different if a couple of choices were made differently. We were together for 6 years, engaged for approximately 2 of those years. Things went downhill pretty quickly, and know we have a not too frequent casual friendship. Not too much communication. I want to be friends, the breakup was complicated but not cruel. I missed her for a long, long time, it was extremely hard to get over her. You're with someone for that long a time, you don't get over it in a day.

Back to the dream, it was at a Walmart or a similar kind of department store. I don't know what I was there for, but we bumped into each other, she had a friend with her, and we started talking, interest was obvious. She asked about getting together the following day, and that was about it. Somehow it just got me to thinking about the good times we had together. Whenever stories of the past come up in conversations, mine invariably include her, as we together for a long time and is involved in a large chunk of my history of the past nearly 10 years.

It just got me to thinking about being alone. Nobody likes being alone, humans are communal creatures. Sure we like having time alone, but too much of that is not good for anybody, makes it that much harder to reintegrate, so to speak. I don't have a large support network, so I may be trying to use this forum as that network.

Anyway, thanks for reading.

What happens on the net, stays on the net.

My ex.... I still think this is a good picture. Posted by Hello
